UKEdMag - The Best Moments in RE: UNCUT

My latest article for UKEdMag is a collection celebrating why it is so great to be an RE teacher. Many thanks for all those who contributed in different ways. The final article is here: http://issuu.com/ukedchat/docs/uked_magazine_dec_2015/19

Due to space constraints a few had to be chopped (nothing to do with quality), so here are the Best Moments UNCUT:

“A Muslim student once told me he no longer thought the Jews were behind 9/11 because I had pulled that theory apart” @tombennett71

“Being asked by a Year 13 not to report to his parents on his RS A-level because he had continued to study it secretly” Anon

UKEdMag: The Future of RE

Having lead some sessions for TeachFirst and the Herts Secondary RE Local Group on the future of RE, I attempted, for a wider audeince and tight word count (given the complexity!) to produce an overview of the current situation in RE. I'd also like to add, that this was written before the Clark/Woodhead Faith Debates pamplet was also published.

#UKEdMag - "Subject Knowledge: Love, Learn Teach"

I am able to confess that I am absolutely obsessed with my subject. I really love RE and I hope in some small ways this is infectious to my students

This is my confession as I begin my latest article for UKEdMag.

Teaching The Nativity

I had the privilege of being asked to write something on the Nativity for the Christmas special of UKEdMag. This came during 'busy season' with Y11 Mocks looming, various reports needing writing, short, dark days...

However, it was a joy to revisit the story of the Nativity that has so much to it, it really is the 'greatest story ever told' (coined by the 1965 film, see <here>). I love the cultural, political, historical aspects alongside the miraculous and joyful. I could teach a whole unit it on, and have indeed moved some of my Nativity work to January so we can study with freshness rather than tired, end of term eyes.

I asked for teaching ideas from Save RE (FB group) and via #REchatUK and have collated them in the article. Thanks to all who contributed.

#UKEdMag - The 10 Commandments of Tweets with Students

My third artcile for UKEdMag appears in the October edition. It features something I have written about a number of times and presented about at TeachMeets too. I hope it is useful to those who are trying to see how Twitter can be of use for learning.

#UKEdMag - Jobs: "The Times They Are A-Changing'"

Back in early April, I posted on my blog to help my school find a new member of staff (see <here>). I also used Twitter to help me with an internal job application (see <here>). These two experiences helped me to write my most recent contribution to the excellent UKEdMag - subscribe <here> if you haven't done so already!
